TL/DR : Gotta love zipties.
the plastic oilpan shield in the Jetta came loose again and kept smacking the subframe, because my previous metal wire repair held up for only a year. So I fixed it up with some zipties, those are the best. Even though it looks like a "ghetto" repair (original fasteners broke over years, and I don't even want to know the cost of proper replacements), it works wonders.
After taking the opportunity to test if my fix worked, I went on a spirited drive around the various backroads we got here. The torque feels just right, not too much, not too little. No more smacking of the shield, no noise, just the wind flowing through. Next thing to replace on this car, THE HANDBRAKE CABLE.

I just repaired a stretched hood release cable by using a ziptie as a spacer. Zipties fix all the things.

Zip ties hold my passenger side headlight on.

My stepdads car is aligned with wedges of cardboard and secured with a ziptie and some assorted bolts I found. Ghetto repairs are the best repairs.
